**Lesson Plan: Basic Fitness Activities**
**Year Group**: Year 1
**Lesson Duration**: 45 minutes
**Topic**: Basic Fitness Activities
**Objective**:
- To introduce students to basic fitness activities.
- To develop gross motor skills, coordination, and balance.
- To promote enjoyment and participation in physical activities.
**Resources Needed**:
- Cones
- Bean bags
- Hula hoops
- Music player
- Soft balls
**Lesson Outline**:
1. **Warm-Up (10 minutes)**:
- **Activation**: Start with a gentle jog around the play area to get the students' heart rates up.
- **Dynamic Stretches**: Lead students through simple, fun stretches like reaching for the sky, touching toes, and arm circles.
- **Game**: Simon Says with basic movements (jumping jacks, hopping on one foot, spinning, etc.)
2. **Main Activity (25 minutes)**:
**Station-Based Activities (5-minute rotation at each station)**:
- **Station 1: Cone Weaving**:
- Set up cones in a zigzag pattern. Students weave through the cones, practising their agility skills.
- Variation: Ask students to balance a bean bag on their head as they weave through the cones.
- **Station 2: Jumping Hoops**:
- Place hula hoops on the ground in a line or diverse patterns. Students jump from hoop to hoop, enhancing their jumping and landing skills.
- **Station 3: Bean Bag Toss**:
- Set up targets (like buckets or hoops on the ground). Students practice tossing bean bags into the targets to improve hand-eye coordination.
- **Station 4: Balloon/Ball Games**:
- Provide soft balls or balloons. Students try to keep the balloon off the ground using different parts of their body (hands, head, knee).
- **Station 5: Balance Beam**:
- Use a low balance beam or a line on the ground. Students walk along the beam/line, balancing as they go.
- For an added challenge, get them to walk heel-to-toe.
3. **Cool Down (5-10 minutes)**:
- Gentle stretching exercises to cool down.
- Play soft music and guide students through relaxing movements like breathing in and out, stretching their arms, and shaking out their legs.
- Reflective Chat: Gather students in a circle to discuss what activities they enjoyed and how they felt during the lesson. Encourage them to share their favourite station and any new skills they feel they have learnt.
4. **Closure**:
- Summarise the key points of the lesson, emphasising the importance of physical activity and staying active.
- Praise students for their efforts and participation.
- Remind the students to stay hydrated and have a water break at the end.
**Assessment**:
- Observe students' participation and enthusiasm.
- Note their ability to follow instructions and complete activities at each station.
- Provide positive feedback to encourage continued participation and improvement.
**Differentiation**:
- Adapt activities to suit the varying abilities of students.
- Offer more support or simpler tasks for those who need it.
- Provide additional challenges for advanced students, ensuring everyone remains engaged and motivated.
**Safety Considerations**:
- Ensure the activity area is free from hazards.
- Supervise all activities closely.
- Remind students to be aware of their surroundings and peers while participating in the activities.
